Anguilla Reports Strong Canadian Arrivals in Q4 2018

Toronto — The island nation of Anguilla—widely regarded as one of the Caribbean’s foremost destinations—today confirmed that it received a near-historic number of visitor arrivals from Canada in Q4, 2018. In a dramatic return to form from Anguilla’ biggest foreign market after the U.S., Canadian arrivals in the last three months of 2018 reached 1,434. This figure is particularly noteworthy in the context of Hurricane Irma, which hit Anguilla earlier in the year and had a temporarily adverse effect on tourism.

First ever UNWTO/IPSOS Survey – Citizens recognize the positive impact of the sector

Madrid, Spain – According to the first ever global survey conducted by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and IPSOS, 47% of respondents think ‘they live in cities with a high number of tourists’. Over 50% considers tourism has a positive impact in generating wealth and promoting cultural exchanges, and 49% feel there should be measures to improve tourism management. Only 12% of respondents favour limitations to the number of visitors.

International Tourist Arrivals Reach 1.4 billion Two Years Ahead of Forecasts

2018 totalled 1.4 billion international tourist arrivals (+6%), consolidating 2017 strong results and proving to be the second strongest year since 2010. Middle East (+10%) and Africa (+7%) grew above the world average while Asia and the Pacific and Europe grew at 6%. For 2019, UNWTO forecasts a 3-4% increase, in line with the historical growth trend.
