Here's what surprises me: the way Key West surprises everyone. It feels like I hear this comment from a fellow Canadian every month or so: "I went to Key West! I loved it! I had no idea!" This lack of understanding can't be the fault of the many of us who love Key West – we're pretty much apostles for the place. Maybe people are surprised simply because that is the nature of the beast: Key West is a place of inevitable surprises.
