Niagara Falls, ON – Registration is now open for the inaugural 2018 North America Friendship Cup, scheduled to take place July 31 to August 3, at Niagara Parks’ Legends on the Niagara golf complex in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

The 54-hole scratch event for senior amateurs will be played at Legends’ championship Battlefield course, the Doug Carrick design that hosted the 2004 Canadian Women’s Open. In addition to the individual stroke play tournament, competitors from the United States and Canada will have the opportunity to represent their countries and contribute to the Friendship Cup team competition.

Honorary Captains for the inaugural Friendship Cup are Dave King, representing the United States and Fred Silver, representing Canada. In addition to their numerous amateur golf achievements and coveted awards bestowed upon them, Dave King also hosts three marquee senior events in the U.S., while Fred Silver is the longstanding host and Tournament Director of the prestigious Senior Porter Cup, in Niagara Falls, New York.

“In playing host to this inaugural tournament, Niagara Parks is pleased to continue building on the rich tradition and reputation it has gained, in hosting some of North America’s finest golfers at Legends on the Niagara Golf complex,” stated Niagara Parks Chair Janice Thomson, “Niagara Parks offers something for golfers of every age and ability and we look forward to challenging the very best senior amateurs in North America, at our historic Battlefield course this summer.”

Retired NHL goaltender Don Edwards is behind the start-up of the Friendship Cup and will serve as Honorary Host for the event. “Born and raised just minutes from the Niagara Region, this is a truly spectacular golf destination complemented by the breathtaking natural beauty of Niagara Falls,” stated Edwards, “As a senior competitor, I know the quality of golf played at this level. Bringing together some of the best senior golfers from Canada and the United Sates will not only produce a great individual contest, but also an exciting team competition where each day the competitors will have the opportunity to represent their country.”
