Toronto Canada  – The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has revealed Puerto Rico as the host destination for its 2020 Global Summit. Puerto Rico is a US territory in the Caribbean, attracting more than three million visitors each year. It’s ease of access, rich culture and cuisine, unparalleled natural wonders, year-long beautiful weather and hospitable people are key factors that make this destination unique and ideal for hosting next year’s WTTC Global Summit from 21 – 23 April 2020.

Brad Dean, Chief Executive Officer of Discover Puerto Rico, the Island’s first-ever and new Destination Marketing Organization, said, “We’re honored to have been chosen as host destination for the upcoming World Travel and Tourism Council 2020 Global Summit. Puerto Rico is a place where rich culture and natural wonders lay the foundation for an immense bounty of one-of-a-kind experiences. We’re thriving as a destination of global importance and hosting this Summit will elevate even further our tourism offering, positively impacting the local economy. We look forward to welcoming the global tourism industry next year to discover all that Puerto Rico offers.”

The announcement comes as Discover Puerto Rico expands its international footprint and continues its mission to make Puerto Rico visible to the world. The move to host the WTTC 2020 Global Summit forms part of the organisation’s strategy to position the Island as a premier travel destination for international visitors. With world class facilities such as new luxury hotels, increased options connecting markets and improved infrastructure projects, the time to visit Puerto Rico is now.

District San Juan, opening later this year in Puerto Rico, will be home to the WTTC Global Summit next year. A five-acre hospitality and entertainment district, the complex is designed to be the most vibrant and popular setting for events, conventions and performances in the Caribbean region.

Travel & Tourism is one of the leading sectors stimulating economic growth and employment worldwide. In 2018, the global Travel & Tourism sector grew at 3.9% to contribute a record $8.8 trillion and 319 million jobs in the world economy. In Puerto Rico, the travel industry employs roughly 77,000 people and impacts 17 other sectors of the economy. Tourism contributes to 6.5% of Puerto Rico’s GPD and is on the rise given the Island’s popularity as a must-visit destination.
